Global "Blue Screen of Death" pandemic, Xbox consoles with exclusive designs and a new police game
From a world-shaking cybersecurity update, Xbox controllers designed for the new Deadpool x Wolverine movie to a new police game being developed by EPIC Games, there's all that and more in the latest tech episode.
A cyber security flaw that has reverberated around the world and sent many a giant company into a state of panic has been exposed. It turns out that it was simply an update to the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike that was not compatible with Windows systems.
It is the CrowdStrike security system that is used by a large number of global companies. Airports were most affected by this bug, as they were unable to scan tickets or check documents, which would take up to 5 times longer to do manually.
The bug caused flight delays, loss of bookings, loss of communication with airports, and problems in banks, medical, and even emergency centers. Some applications in the Microsoft 365 suite are still not working and it is not clear when they will be fixed.
Moving on from the global IT tragedy to happier news, Xbox has created two new controller designs for the Deadpool x Wolverine movie in cinemas this week.
As you can imagine, the controllers are in keeping with the style of the film: lots of sarcasm, provocation, unique details, and, of course, the iconic red Deadpool color. Perhaps the most intriguing part of all this is the structure of the console, showing the curves of the body.
Unfortunately, the controller itself will not normally be available for purchase. It is not even clear whether it will work. The controller will be a one-of-a-kind, one-of-a-kind creation for the world and will be given to one Deadpool fan alongside a new Xbox Series X console, a Deadpool figure, and two additional controllers.
Jumping from sarcastic movie baddies to real and serious police work, EPIC Games has unveiled a new law enforcement game, The Precinct, where you play as 1983 officer Nick Cordell Jr.
Set in Avernus. Here you will not only be able to drive but also walk or even fly a helicopter. In the game itself, you'll also feel the progression of the job - at the start, you'll be an officer fresh out of the academy, and you'll improve with each case. And the cases will range from parking tickets to gang bank robberies and drug deals.
The game will be released on 15 August, so don't miss your chance to try it out.
